Welcome to SMES

Our Mission and Values
Saint Michael Episcopal School’s mission is to provide a nurturing, individualized, inclusive early childhood experience based on our four pillars - Service, Education, Love and Faith.
We offer a curriculum to stimulate children’s intellectual and spiritual growth with activities that foster creative thinking, develop strong character, and build a foundation in faith.
About Our School
Our school was established as a ministry of Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church (SMAA) in 1986. At that time, it was solely as a Mother’s Day Out program through two years of age. Over the years, our school has evolved into a thriving early childhood experience. We now offer educational opportunities for children 12 months through Kindergarten. Saint Michael Episcopal School (SMES) is under the leadership of Netra Fitzgerald, Head of School, and Tricia Morris, Assistant Head of School, and has grown into a successful early childhood option for Saint Michael and All Angels members and north Dallas residents. SMES serves over 195 families each year and has 245 students ernolled for the 2020-2021 school year.
We offer a two-day a week offering in our Toddlers and Twos program. This program begins at 12 months old and extends into the 2’s program. The school day is from 8:45 am- 2:30 pm. The toddlers and twos program allows for each child to engage in early social interaction, group play, and the beginning of classroom instructions. Children in our toddler/two program begin the exploration of social and emotional development with the introduction of Baby Doll Circle Time. As the first three years of life establish a person’s mental model for relationships, this social emotional curriculum helps lay a healthy blueprint for important developmental components. Our toddler/two students also attend enrichment offerings that include Science Explorers and music. These classes eat lunch at school as well as have a nap time.
Children who turn 3 by September 1, move into our Pre-K classrooms. Curriculum includes Everyday Math, Handwriting without Tears, Talk-Draw-Write, Jan Richardson phonics and guided reading. All our Pre-K classrooms have time spent in weekly Science Explorers, music and chapel. Our Pre-K teachers are trained in Kimochis, our social-emotional curriculum and do daily lessons on important skills that have been built upon from the early years with Baby Doll Circle Time.
All of our teachers incorporate art, table activities, circle time, and free play to provide a well-rounded experience. We encourage our students to become more independent by helping them to learn skills that make them feel confident and capable.
As an Episcopal school, we believe that serving others is one of the best ways we can teach our little ones to know God. Through events such as the book drive or the canned food collection, we are able to show our children what it means to help those who need it most. We hope by instilling the importance of putting others first at an early age that they will be better prepared to meet the world. We also gather weekly for chapel service for our children to come together with Father Eric Liles to learn about stories from the Bible and how God plays a role in each of our lives.
We hope that you will find SMES to be the school where your child grows to love learning and to love those around them.
