Student Experiences

At Saint Michael Episcopal School, creating a stimulating environment for the child means offering opportunities to explore and grow academically and spiritually. All children at SMES take part in weekly chapel, music programs and Science Explorers.
Weekly Chapel
At Saint Michael Episcopal School, we believe helping children develop a relationship with God is an important part of building the character of our students. Weekly chapel has become a special time each Wednesday morning when all of our Pre-K and Kindergarten children gather to engage in an age-appropriate service. Our young friends participate in the processional, recessional and weekly prayers. We invite parents to join us any time, especially if their child is helping that week or receiving a birthday blessing. Whether teaching about God’s love, being a good neighbor, helping others in need or how we can all be examples of Christ, Father Eric is able to relate to them in a meaningful way each week.
We are also happy to now be able to incorporate The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd into the curriculum for our oldest classes. We believe that teaching the Christian faith through this environment will only enhance their understanding of and relationship with God.
Our Toddlers and Twos attend weekly chapel service where they too sing favorite songs and learn some of the most meaningful stories from the Bible.
Teachers are able to incorporate these lessons into their daily classroom activities as well. We feel it is never too early to talk to little ones about God’s love for all of us.
Music: 12 months- 2 years
Little ones will have lots of fun shaking, singing and learning in music class. They will be introduced to drums, maracas, guitar and other instruments as well as traditional, classical, spiritual and original children’s songs. While they are having fun learning and moving, they will also experience the joy of singing to the Lord. Our music classes offer opportunities for productive brain stimulation, increased motor skills, enhanced language skills and improved social and memory skills.
Music: Preschool and Kindergarten
SMES preschool and kindergarten music classes are designed to help children learn and grow in their musical knowledge as well as enhance their cognitive, social, emotional and motor skills all while fostering self-confidence. While they are moving and singing, they will be introduced to and interact with an instrument for every letter of the alphabet. Our preschool and kindergarten music classes allow exposure to different styles of music and discovery of music notations. Our children feel the joy of singing songs to the Lord, prepare for and participate in school wide performances and hope to gain a love and appreciation for music that will last for years to come.
Science Explorers
Science Explorers is an introduction to the wonderful world of science for Saint Michael's students. Science Explorers provides a stimulating classroom experience, full of ideas and materials to incorporate science learning into a child's everyday life. The classes promote a lifetime of learning through the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) concept. Children will explore hands-on learning through simple science experiments and explorations in the natural world that will awaken your budding scientist’s curiosity.
